Remembered you had a blog. I like the pictures! What are those UV thingys? How much can you say in Japanese now? Happy 4th from your favorite U.S. American!

Hi Chanel. Your mom finally sent me your blog again. I've been catching up reading it. It takes me back to 2 years ago when I was reading Vicki's blogs in Africa and yours in SE Asia. Here we are again, doing the same thing! What ARE those UV sterilizer things? And the self-cleaning toilets... Does everyone need one?! Laura

My Japanese is pathetically limited. At least the numbers are the same as chinese, so I can read those!!

The UV sterilizer is for these cups that everyone queues up to use to drink out of this special spring water at a temple.

As for Japanese toilets, it is really a mixture. Sometimes you will get a beautiful self-cleaning toilet that dries and can produce a fake flushing noise, and other times it is a good old squat toilet. You take what you can get >.<
